How to Sleep With Curly Hair

Posted on 02 May 2019

It doesn’t matter how amazing of a hair day you’re having, eventually, you and your curls have to go to bed and start over the next day.

In a perfect world, you’d go to sleep with beautiful hair and wake up with it looking gorgeous all over again. There would be absolutely no bedhead and your wash-and-go would last forever!

But we gotta live in the real world, and while we can’t promise you an indestructible wash-and-go, we do have our own tips and tricks to help you kiss your bedhead goodbye!

How to Sleep With Curly Hair

Sleep on Satin

Happy, healthy curls are hydrated and moisturized curls. It’s important to keep your hair from becoming dry and brittle. One of the biggest culprits for sucking moisture out of your precious tresses is cotton. Which means your very own pillowcase could be robbing you of moisture and leaving you with frizzy, dry hair to deal with in the morning.

One way to preserve your hair throughout the night is by throwing on a satin scarf before crawling into bed. Satin is the perfect material to sleep on because it not only locks in moisture but also protects your curls from any friction caused by constant tossing and turning.

If you’re not a huge fan of wearing anything on your head at night (or simply can’t remember to put it on) you can always pick up a satin pillowcase to make it easier for yourself.

Pineapple

So what exactly is a pineapple, anyway? Simply put, it’s a high ponytail that sits on top of your head. It got its name because it resembles the way a pineapple’s leaves sprout out from the fruit. To create a pineapple, all you’ll need is a loose scrunchie or hair tie. The rest is pretty simple. Just gather your curls into a loose, high ponytail at the top of your head and you’re good to go.

What makes the pineapple so effective? It keeps your curls from flattening, frizzing, and forming tangles, so you not only reduce the risk of damaging your hair but also keep your curls from getting ruined overnight.

You can even add a silk or satin scarf around the pineapple to take extra special care of your edges.

Multi-Pineapple

If your hair isn’t very long, it may not be possible to get your hair into a single pineapple. If this is the case, you can try parting your hair into two or three sections and use a ponytail to tie them as high up on your head as you can.

Morning refresh

Every curly girl has her own unique way of reviving next-day curls. To find what works for you, experiment and play around wit h different methods until you find one that you love. Having trouble nailing your refresh routine? Check out our blog, Troubleshooting Your Day 2+ Curls.

Sleeping with ur curls doesn't have to be a nightmare!

Don’t let an obsession with maintaining perfect curls keep you up at night. Your hair doesn’t need to be immaculate in order for it to be beautiful. In fact, many curly girls eventually come to love their second and third-day hair — frizz, volume, wildness, and all.

Your curls are not always going to do what you want, and that’s okay! The sooner you learn to roll with that, the sooner you learn to love and embrace them for what they are.
